Kannada film actor Gotham C and commercial filmmaker Raghav Bhotika teamed up with like-minded friends and started the 21 Grams Collective, which is passionate about making music videos and movies. The collective posted their music video, titled “Har Zulm,” on their YouTube channel.

The video features Siri Ravikumar, Goutham C and Maahir and is directed by Raghav. “Har Zulm” is sung by Shrikanth Yajurvedi and the song is based on a song by Sajjad Ali. “Sajjad is a Pakistan-based director, composer and lyricist,” says Shrikanth. “The first time I heard an Indian version of the same song, I wanted to hear the original. That’s how I first heard the original by Sajjad Ali. The tune was addictive and the lyrics carried the soul. I just couldn’t stop humming it. That’s when we decided to do our version of the same song, which is about three friends and the trip.

“Har Zulm” is a tribute to Ali’s song, says Goutham. “The music video is set in the 80s and takes you on the journey of three friends who were once close and how they go through the complexity of emotions.”

“Har Zulm” is their second music video, the first being “Sahane Torede”, released a few months ago on Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah music channel. “That song was about mental health,” says Goutham. “He was inspired by the lockdown and COVID-19. Goutham featured in ‘Sahane Torede’ video directed by Raghav. Goutham is known for his role in SD Aravinda’s matash and is currently awaiting the release of Jayanth Seege’s Love in the time of COVIDwhere he will share the screen with Rakesh Maiya.

“Har Zulm” was created on a purely collaborative basis, says Goutham. “All of us, from the cinematographer, Vishnu Tenkayala, and the actors to the makeup artist, came together to create this video. The song was shot at a farm and a college in Bangalore. The team loves making music videos because a music video has an infinite shelf life and can go viral no matter what time it was posted.

The song is on 21 Grams YouTube channel.
