Akron’s PorchRokr music and arts festival will transform porches, businesses into stages and art studios August 20

AKRON, Ohio – On Saturday, August 20, homes, businesses and parks in Akron’s historic Highland Square neighborhood will transform into mini concert halls and art studios for the 10th annual PorchRokr Music Festival.

Over 150 local musicians, bands and artists are lined up for the festival, representing genres such as rock, alternative, folk, jazz, blues, funk, soul, country, pop, hip hop and R&B. Other event highlights include food from more than 40 local restaurants and food trucks, a beer garden, a silent disco, karaoke and a kids’ zone, according to the event’s website. The event will unofficially begin with the PorchRokr 5K at 8 o’clock. After the race, Kate Woodford-Shell of square yoga will host a free community yoga class at 9:30 a.m. on the green space at the corner of Borton Avenue and Market Street.

The music festival will open with performances by PorchRokr Guitar Orchestra and DrumSing at 10.15am at Will Christy Park, located on Mull Avenue and West Exchange Street.

Surf-rock band The Beyonderers will perform at 8 p.m. on the festival’s main stage, located at the corner of Elmore Avenue and South Portage Path.

beer garden

The beer garden and festival stage, featuring drinks from Platform Beer Co., is located adjacent to Will Christy Park at Augusta Avenue and South Rose Boulevard.

silent disco

Attendees are encouraged to bring headphones for the Silent Disco and Dance Party with DJ La’Mae, DJ Jensen and DJ Pops at Mustard Seed Market & Café beginning at 9 p.m.

Children’s area

Summit Metro Parks and Akron Children’s Museum will offer a playground and activities for children at Will Christy Park.

Car park

Event organizers advise attendees to cycle, walk or take the bus to the festival, if possible. Metro RTA offers free walks during the weekends until the summer. Participants traveling to the festival by car are encouraged to park outside the festival footprint.

PorchRokr is hosted by Highland Square Neighborhood Association.
