Cardi B can’t wait to have Lil’ Kim on her next album, but she’s also having a hard time deciding which song to work on with her.
In a lengthy interview with Nessa for Hot 97, the “Hot Shit” rapper revealed that she has some leads in mind for a possible collaboration with Lil’ Kim in the near future. After discussing his decision to postpone the follow-up to Privacy breachshe revealed that she wanted to make sure it was a big moment not only for her, but also for Kim.
“I even hit her, I want Lil’ Kim on my album,” she said at 3:00 p.m. of the above interview. “I have a song I’m thinking about, ‘Aight, she’s good for that’, but I’m also debating another song. Because I kinda want her on this one too. What I really wanted to do, it was like a ‘Aunt Dot’ with her. … But then I’m kinda debating, is it going to be a little over the top? How’s it gonna be? … I just want the song that I do with her, I want it to be like a great, like, a great comeback. I just don’t want to put her on my album on a song and it’s like, ‘Cool, yeah, she had a Lil’ Kim feature.’ I want it to be like her crazy…her moment.
Cardi has yet to consult with Kim on which tracks she’s having trouble deciding between. “I haven’t had the conversation with her yet, I said, ‘I’m working on something, wait,'” she said. “But I haven’t had the conversation about the things I want her to say, or the energy. …Because I want her to come with a certain type of energy. But I didn’t have the conversation because I’m so undecided with the song.
Bardi compared how she would approach collaborating versus reuniting with Megan Thee Stallion on a new track, which would come with a lot of pressure as “WAP” was a massive hit. “If I were to do another song with Megan, I really have to make sure I do three or four songs and it will make sense because ‘WAP’ was such a big moment,” the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker added. . “It must be, ‘Oh my god, they make a great duo.’ And that’s what I really want with Kim, like something that makes sense.”
Alongside today’s release of “Hot Shit,” Cardi also opened up about what inspired her to bring Kanye West and Lil Durk on the single. “I always felt like it was for a male rapper, but I couldn’t choose any male rapper,” she explained around 4:30 a.m. Cardi praised Durk for “doing his thing” and “squealing” before really hitting it hard over the past two years, saying, “He just shows that’s what happens when you have patience.”
When she sent the track to Durk, he sent back a verse the next day. “We had Kanye’s verse, but I still felt like something was missing,” she said. “Kanye took his time making his verse.”
Although she had to wait a little longer to hear what Kanye cooked up, he apparently played it around enough of his friends and collaborators that he was clearly a huge fan. “It really means a lot to me,” she said. “It’s not forced. … Wow, he really liked the song, he gave me a chance!
