Coi Leray responds to claim his first album moved 9K in the first week

Coi Leray is proud of her album sales, and she’s willing to fact-check those who don’t get the numbers right.

The ‘Blick Blick’ MC took to Twitter on Monday to respond to DJ Akademiks after he claimed his new album avant-garde sold 9,000 units in its first week. As Leray, and the charts themselves, insist, she sold more than that.

“No baby, I sold 11.5k and reached #89 on the Billboard hot100,” Coi wrote alongside several colorful emojis. “thank you for everything though.”

Coi also retweeted a note from Rap Alert, revealing that his LP sold the aforementioned amount and as a result debuted at No. 89 on the Billboard 200. These numbers were also backed by Chartdata.

Just this weekend, Coi continued to celebrate the release of her debut album on Twitter, and despite falsely claiming it had “315,000 album sales,” she still bragged about a few other stats any new artist would hope for. “4 Billboard top 100 entries (No More Parties, No More Parties Remix, Big Prrd, Blick Blick,” she wrote. “6 nominations without an album. Millions of monthly listeners. THE TRENDSETTER ALBUM NOW.”

As she wrote in The Shade Room’s Instagram comments on Monday, while 11,500 sales won’t put her in the top 10 on the albums chart just yet, it’s “not a race” for success, but rather a “marathon”.

“[…] Can’t complain about anything,” Coi wrote on Twitter last week about his album sales. “My debut album is amazing and not a single song can be called bad. It’s been 5 days. I understand that Coi Leray is so viral and doing well on blog headlines, but believe me, it’s all part of the game, get out there and stay focused.
