New Music from Houston Artists, Jan. 22-28

When you think of country music, your mind might transport you to Nashville, Tennessee. And while great music comes from the hometown of country music, Houston is sprouting its own iteration of the genre. This week, New Music is shining a spotlight on Texas country, with new music videos from Jamestown Revival and Thomas Csorba, plus a debut EP from Houston artist Catterina.

Katherine, Eighty One EP

Houston Catterina’s transplant arrived with their debut EP, Eighty-one. The 6-track project weaves together the life experiences that brought her to this point: disappointing heartbreak, a brutal winter storm, and the ongoing pandemic. It harmonizes in a raspy melody, with a sound that falls somewhere between soulful Lou Ridley and upbeat Danielle Bradberry. Listen here.

Big Pokey featuring Eddie Coke, “Pressure”

Originally known for their affiliation with the hip-hop collective Screwed Up Click, Big Pokey made their return to the studio last year with their highly anticipated comeback album. Sensei. Today he released a new single, titled “Pressure” featuring Houston R&B singer Eddie Coke. Listen here.

Jamestown Revival, “Young Man”

While Jamestown Revival is currently touring the country, their new album A young man gain territory. The duo recently shot the music video for the album’s title track on the banks of the Mississippi and, according to the couple, only needed one take. Listen here.

Trae The Truth featuring Eastside Eggroll and Jay’Ton, “Bigger in Texas”

Beloved rapper and public figure Trae The Truth stepped back into the booth ahead of her next project, Truth Season. The album’s lead single, “Bigger In Texas,” is a new anthem that reminds everyone of how things are in the Lone Star State. Listen here.

Thomas Csorba, “The Crossroads”

“Backroads” by American singer Thomas Csorba, excerpt from his Taken from the EP Jordan, now has an acoustic visual. Csorba delivers a mesmerizing and moving effort to his 2021 single. He’s joined by artist and co-writer Beau Bedford in the new video. Listen here.

Kayy Kilo, “Big Energy Freestyle”

After freeing her fierce love letter project at the end of last year, Kayy Kilo returns with a new freestyle for his fans. In a play to Atlanta rapper Latto’s song “Big Energy,” Kilo uses the beat for his own sexy, carefree edit. Listen here.
