Ahead of the release of their new album “Autofiction” next month, Suede has released an accompanying short film.

‘Autofiction: A Short Film’ features album opener ‘She Still Leads Me On’ and new single ‘Fifteen Again’, and was directed by MrMr Films’ Katie Lambert.

“With the ‘Autofiction’ short, we didn’t want to make a normal performance video,” explains bassist Mat Osman. “Instead, we wanted to make a short film that would overlap at a Suede concert, with the band as a small part of the film, rather than at the center”.

“MrMr then came up with the idea of taking a crossroads in a couple’s life and playing with it in strange ways – going back and forward in time, seeing it through different sets of eyes, seeing their hopes, fears and memories all mixed up too,” he continues.

“‘Autofiction: A Short Film’ picks up on some of the album’s themes – youth and aging, love and loss, fear and joy – [and] sees them play in the story of Chris and Hannah,” he adds.

Lambert herself says, “’Autofiction: A Short Film’ is about that moment in a relationship when it’s the critical moment. The moment when you are a certain age and forever feels incredibly close. When you’re not sure if you’re with that one, or if you could find another one, or if it’s a shitty societal construct anyway”.

“We loved the idea of creating a film that revolves around a night in real time and a concert – but that actually explores the past, present and future at the same time,” she continues. .

“Which is a mush and a waste of feelings; because isn’t that the soup of memory we’re constantly swimming in anyway? This movie felt like a real collaboration. Hannah and Chris have so much of both of us in them, this film feels like an autofiction of not only Suede’s beautiful new music, but also MrMr’s.

The album is released on September 16. Watch the movie here:
